How to Choose the Best Jaggery Powder in India (Buying Guide)

The short answer: the best jaggery powder is the one with a single ingredient (sugarcane jaggery), a printed FSSAI licence, a natural golden-brown colour, and lab-tested purity — at a price that isn't inflated by buzzwords. Here is the 5-point checklist we'd use even if we didn't make gud powder ourselves.

1. Read the ingredient list first

It should say one thing: sugarcane jaggery powder. Some packs mix in refined sugar or glucose to cut cost — the label gives it away.

2. Look for the FSSAI licence number

Every legitimate Indian food brand prints it. Ours is 10726998000462, and our batches pass all six FSSAI chemical-analysis parameters, including 94.8% natural sucrose and zero added colouring.

3. Judge the colour honestly

Natural jaggery is golden to medium brown. A very pale, bright-yellow powder often signals chemical whitening — paler is not purer. Very dark can mean over-caramelised or old stock.

4. Compare price per 100 g, not per pack

In India, certified-organic brands (24 Mantra, Organic Tattva, Two Brothers and similar) typically sell 500 g for ₹200–₹350. Our natural, lab-tested powder is ₹149 for 500 g (₹29.80/100 g) — we skip the organic certification fee, not the purity testing.

5. Powder fineness and packing

A fine, even grind dissolves instantly in chai; coarse grinds behave like broken block gud. Zip-lock or well-sealed pouches keep moisture out — jaggery is hygroscopic and cakes when exposed.

Certified organic vs lab-tested natural

Organic certification tracks how the sugarcane was farmed; lab testing verifies what is actually in your pack. Both have value — we've written a full explainer on organic vs natural jaggery so you can decide what matters to you.

Try it yourself: order 100% natural Gud Powder — 500 g for ₹149 or 1 kg for ₹279 — delivered across India.
